Raceway 81 is the new home of the Newcastle Slot Car Racing Club, originally formed in 1990 and located in a cellar at Longbenton High School, Newcastle upon Tyne.
Due to redevelopment of the Longbenton site, it was necessary for the Club to relocate.
The relocation of the club was also based on the members awareness that it was important to be able to provide an extended club facility to enable it to better promote the sport to the general public in a venue which provided suitable facilities for all age groups.
The construction of the new facility was undertaken by the members of the club.

Newcastle Slot Car Racing Club is a not for profit organisation and is affiliated to the British Slot Car Racing Association and the Royal Automobile Club Motor Sports Association.
Raceway 81 is a not for profit association and conducts regular weekly race nights on Mondays (for scale car racing) and Thursday nights (for wing car racing) from 6.30pm.

The Club will also host Race events for BSCRA Open meetings and other race meetings for associated race series.

For younger racers, the club will organise a Novice club on Saturdays (subject to demand) for new, interested racers from the age of 10 years on up.  The Club will provide cars and controllers for these events. See the relevant information page for times, etc.

Additionally, the club can be booked for use by other organisations and parties interested in sharing the experience of Model Car Racing for organised race events tailored to their needs.
