Race Report
By 2.30pm on Friday the 9th., 14 Uber keen racers had already appeared for a bit of practice and to settle in for the weekends fun. Friday evening consisted of  a 1 ½  hour team race for open chassis, JK LMP bodies and a chance to try out the new JK Hawk motor.  The full results of this race are now consigned to the dustbin of history (due to the computer dramas of Sunday Morning) but  it did prove to be somewhat amusing! Of the six teams that started, only 3 finished without loosing the will to live (the others having blown up a selection of motors).  Performance wise the motors did show a good turn of  speed with lap times between 4.1 and 4.3 seconds, but some failed due to loose windings and rather interesting Smoke outs when they let go.  (Glad to say there will be an epoxied, tagged and rebalanced version of this armature available in the next few weeks which will doubtless prove to have sorted the problems).  The finishing teams all finished on the original motor and winners were AB Slotsport (aka Andy Brown- Searle & Les Bailey) on the very same motor that ran at Pinewood last month, 2nd home was Dave Lees and Dave Bradburn, followed by Peter Sidgwick and  Peter Bowman. The other teams may wish to remain un-named!

Saturday Morning saw a compliment of  25 racers for Production Saloon. Brian T.Q’d and the racing was fast and fairly tight in the respective groups .  This was James’s first win of the weekend with local “returnee” Andrew Aynsley making second to Brian’s 3rd.
Saturday continued with OG12 practice and Qualifying. Qualifying saw James putting in a 3.61 and Brian just capping it by doing a 3.58.
 Practice continued until around 8pm for those who wanted to wear out what kit they had spare!
Sunday morning dawned and very sunny and pleasant it was. However this was not the case for the race control control computer which decided it would not even load Windows XP! Let alone the race control system.  There followed a frantic 2 and a bit hours during “open practice”  in which Mark Wattam valiantly tried to restore the computer to no avail and ended up having to totally reload Windows XP + all associated drivers to make the system work then reload, re-associate and set up the race control system. By the time 10.45am rolled around everything was good (well working!) and late qualifying got underway for the 3 late comers. As we were a little unsure about the race control computer, we also backed up the race segment info on a laptop in case everything went a little sideways, but with the exception of one glitch, again courtesy of the fine folk from Micosoft, everything worked out OK. However, we did loose data from the previous races. Luckily we had a hard copy of the Production results so all of the main salient info was saved for posterity!
The OG12 race saw a great Tussle between Brian and James and great close finish after a few incidents in last segment, with Andrew Aynsley coming a commendable 3rd and Ian Barker 4th.

Moving onto Eurosport,  Brian put in a stunning 3.11  which James managed to top with an even more awesome 3.08 lap.
 Eurosport at Raceway 81 is fast and very “survival of the fittest” with many racers including the writer of the report falling foul of various incidents and in all races, even the top heat, big incidents and track calls were quite prolific.  The top final saw some superb runs from both James and Brian, swapping the lead in the first few segments, however James fell foul of a few more incidents than Brian in the last few segments allowing Martin and Ian to get past him in the closing stages.  Great, Fast racing! And congratulations to all who made it to end of their races!
Without doubt the racing was fast a furious in all classes and for some racers this was their first visit to the track and also their first experience of the “flat out banking” and the buzz and challenge of a truly Fast Track.
We hope all enjoyed their weekend and we would like to thank all racers who attended for coming and making an interesting weekends racing.
Thanks also go to Mark Wattam for providing the usual and now legendary catering (and also “computer emergency services”) + the rest of the Raceway 81 crew for mucking in when needed.
